Nursery schools

Do you have a child and need day care? In Naustdal we have 2 nursery schools, and you have to apply by the 15th om March every year.

The main admission period for all nursery schools in Naustdal takes place once a year.

You can apply at any time and places are allocated to applicants as they become available. Still your best chance to obtain a place in a nursery school is through the main admission, so you are highly recommende to use this oppurtunity.

You apply via Internett at the application portal for nursery scools. The web site is in Norwegian only.


In Norway children start in 1st grade the year they turn 6. To be given a place, your child must be registered with the Office of the National Public Registrar (Folkeregisteret).

The Norwegian school system is divided into three levels:

  • Primary school (1st to 7th grade)
  • Secondary school (8th to 10th grade)
  • Upper secondary school (1st to 3rd year)

Finding a personal doctor (fastlege)

As a resident in Naustdal you are entitled to a personal doctor - a fastlege (GP). The fastlege provides general medical services, emergency services and house calls when necessary. He or she is obliged to prioritize their own patients and is bound by official rules regarding rates. Prices must be posted in their offices.

You choose your fastlege on the web site MinFastlege. The web site is in Norwegian only. At you can read more about GP scheme. Please note that you can choose not to have a personal doctor.

Children`s health clinic (Naustdal helsestasjon)

The municipal health clinic provides free health care for children up to age 5. All children are examined at regular intervals and provided with vaccinations. In addition, the clinic offers home visits for new-borns, establishment of mother-and-child groups, counselling and specialist referrals.

Youth health

If you are between 12 and 20 years old, you may contact the municipal health clinics (Naustdal helsestasjon) if you need information or advice on issues like sexuality, sexually transmitted diseases, contraception, drugs, family and relationships.

Maternity care

Maternity care involves regular check ups and counselling, in addition to ultrasound appointments and registration at the hospital. Home birthing is still fairly uncommon in Norway, though there is a growing number of midwives qulified to perform home births.

Naustdal is a municipality in Sogn og Fjordane county, located in the traditional district of Sunnfjord. The administrative centre is the village of Naustdal.

Naustdal is situated between the towns of Førde and Florø, along the Norwegian National Road 5 highway. The Naustdal Tunnel runs through the mountains to connect to the town of Florø. The Førde Airport in Bringeland in Gaular municipality is the closest regional airport, and it lies about 30 kilometres (19 mi) from Naustdal.

Naustdal is a farming community with a diversity and cultural activities ranging from annual art exhibitions at Vevring to fairs, music, and sports. Several renowned artists and writers come from Naustdal. Some of the local farmers breed horses. Athletes from Naustdal do very well both in national and international championships, especially in volleyball and weightlifting.

Naustdal offers rich opportunities for outdoor life such as fishing on the fjord from hired boats. The famous salmon river, Nausta, is in one of the county's largest wilderness areas with mountains, streams, lakes, and mountain farms, and it attracts many tourists from around the world. A recreational area and marina - Sanden - is located near the center of Naustdal.
